The inspirational poems on this site were written by Pastor Lawrie Cottam over a period of many years.
Pastor Cottam has a lifetime's experience upon which to draw when writing these poems. He left school at 14 and does not claim to be an educated man in the academic sense. His has been a practical education - learning by experience! Over the years he has been a ferryman (across the Manchester Ship Canal), he has worked in agriculture, at the docks, in steelworks, factories and brickworks, he has driven a lorry and a JCB and done many other things too. During World War 2 he was in the combined ops section of the Royal Navy and saw first hand many of the sights, horrors and after-effects of war including the D-Day landings.
He has been the Pastor of the AoG church in Swinton, firstly at Mount of Olives and latterly at Christ Church, for many years. He is a father, a grandfather and a great grandfather so he has first hand experience of family life, along with all its joys and the problems and difficulties that sometimes arise.
The Pastor has written many more poems than those below and we hope to have more on this website in due course.
